It’s Always Honey in Philadelphia

If you have asked anyone what their top three go-to food trucks on campus are, most likely their answer includes the famous Honey Truck parked outside the Engineering building on 12th St. I actually went to the Honey Truck once before over a year ago, so I wanted a refresher for my taste buds. My roommate, Meghan, joined me for my lunch run since it was absolutely beautiful outside, a balmy 85 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. We both got the number 9—the tempura shrimp rice bowl and I decided on the pink lemonade while she got an iced coffee. We chatted about our week as we waited, and less than 10 minutes later I got the text our food was ready. I do really like how you can text them to order, meaning you could be sitting in class and order, then pick it up on your way home. How convenient! Our grand total came to about  $14and Meg and I headed back home to chow down. Before I even took my first bite, the smell hit me, and I knew this was going to be good. The bowl comes with rice, coleslaw, and 5 golden shrimp tempuras drizzled with spicy mayo and their homemade teriyaki sauce. Oh. My. Gosh. This was delicious. The rice was soft and sticky and the crispiness of the tempura made the crunch just melt in your mouth. The spicy mayo with the sweetness of the teriyaki is one of my favorite sauce combos to perfectly pair with tempura shrimp. I should see if they sell their teriyaki sauce in bottles, because if they did I’d buy like 5. I’m not the biggest fan of coleslaw, so I didn’t try it but my roommate said it was a yummy addition to the rice. The pink lemonade was the perfect thirst-quencher with how warm the weather outside was today. There is a reason the Honey Truck is one of the supreme spots on campus, they never miss. Previously, I had their famous crispy chicken avocado wrap and that was so heavenly I still remember it a year later. So far, this food truck ranks #1 in my books.
