40 years ago I was still 18 years away from being born. It’s hard for a 22 year old kid to fathom the scope of 40 years. How much can change, how much can stay the same.
One thing that’s stayed the same over 40 years? Students in Temple’s journalism department continuously outdo themselves. Every single year.
Leading the digital side of 14th Street Magazine’s 40th year of publication reminded me just how special Klein College of Media and Communications is. I am constantly blown away by the talents of my peers, my co-workers and my friends.
This year, we set out to completely overhaul our digital presence and I am proud of what we accomplished. I’m immensely proud of our digital team, especially Julia Merola and Rosameila Sanchez Lara, who worked tirelessly to build a website that compliments the incredibly impressive 40-year anniversary print edition of the magazine.
Our staff — in true Temple student fashion — brought innovative, unique and original story ideas to the table. We cover topics like using fake IDs, Philadelphia’s music scene, the AIDS crisis, overcoming drug addiction and so much more.
I hope each reader has as much fun reading these stories as we had putting them together.
Happy birthday, 14th Street Magazine. Cheers to 40 years.
